Andrew Connolly is an Instructor of Music Education at the University of South Carolina. Prior to this, he taught high school band in South Carolina. As a band director, his bands qualified for the South Carolina State Marching Band Championships, placed students in All-Region and All-State bands, and had several students receive excellent and superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble festivals. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Music in music education from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music Education from Florida State University and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
At USC, Connolly teaches middle school band methods, understanding the psychology of music, instrumental techniques for vocalists, commercial music ensembles, supervises student teachers and co-directs the Congeree New Horizons program. As a researcher, his work has been presented at regional, national and international conferences and published in the Journal of Band Research. His research interests include group cohesion in music ensembles, equity in school music, and music teacher education.
Connolly is a Modern Band Fellow with Music Will and a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the South Carolina Music Educators Association and Kappa Kappa Psi (National Band Fraternity). He currently lives in Lexington, SC, with his wife, Kayla, and their dogs, Bryson, Chip and Apollo.
